Confessions of a Recovering Perfectionist (and how routines + systems saved me)

Hello, my name is Caroline, and I’m a recovering perfectionist.

And, in this episode of the Mission Motherhood Podcast, I’m telling you my story.

I’m getting raw and real about where the perfectionist tendencies came from. (Hello past trauma, it’s me, Caroline.)

I’m giving examples of how my agonizing perfectionism showed up in different seasons of my life (In case you’re dealing with the same thing.)

And, I’m sharing what mindset shifts I made to finally break free from the spirit of perfectionism and how simplifying and adding a bit of flexible structure to my life has really helped me.

This might be my favorite episode, because I really share my heart with you. My struggles. My own insecurities. The mindset battle I sometimes have daily in order to make sure I don’t go back there.

It all comes out in this episode.

You may not know if this is a struggle of yours.

You may be thinking, “but I don’t struggle with perfectionism. This does not apply to me.” I encourage you to listen anyway. Perfectionism can exist in ways that aren’t the typical presentation you may be expecting.

Or, you may be experiencing other mental health difficulties that are similar to that of perfectionism, since perfectionism can itself in the form of pressure, stress, and anxiety.

As moms, we know the pressure on us often feels insurmountable. We know that constant stress and anxiety is real, and something that most, if not all, moms face.

But, what is often unknown, is that we don’t have to subscribe to that pressure and allow that to be our reality just because we are moms. We don’t have to allow that to be our narrative.

We have the power to write a motherhood narrative that has broken free from those chains of pressure, perfectionism, stress, anxiety, and debilitating mental load.

Deciding that the narrative is no longer ours is the first step.

For you, I hope that’s this episode.
